Rod and Shavaun Harvey take on Winternationals 2019

Yuasa Batteries brand ambassador Rod Harvey appeared on channel 7's Sunrise program last weekend, alongside his wife Natalie, and two children Shavaun and Carlos. The Harvey family were interviewed live from Ipswich at the 52nd Gulf Western Oils Winternationals - Australia's largest drag racing event.

Rod's Yuasa-powered Toyota Camry sport compact is one of the fastest 'Factory Xtreme' class drag cars in the world, which he recently pedalled to a personal best time of 5.721 seconds over the quarter mile race - crossing the line at an incredible 256.89mph (413.41km/h). The speed he reached set a new world record, while the elapsed time made him the third quickest Sport Compact racer in the world.

The Sport Compact designation includes six cylinder, four cylinder and rotary motors, but the top teams in the world all use turbocharged Toyota 2JZ six cylinder engines for their horsepower. Rod is no different, and has been one of the pioneers of the motor's development.

Rod's daughter Shavaun was also racing at the Winternationals in her Junior Dragster, reaching speeds of over 125km/h. The 11-year old has been racing for over 4 years and loves being behind the wheel. "I just like how fast it goes - I don't like going slow," she added.
